The Austrian Grand Prix takes place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on 9–11 July 2027. Austria is one hour ahead of the UK during this weekend. Our travel rating is Moderate: reaching Austria is straightforward enough, but reaching a rural circuit and returning after the race need separate plans.
For a first visit, start by comparing Graz with camping near the circuit. Graz gives you city evenings and a proper bed; camping puts the race at the centre of the whole weekend. Salzburg and Vienna work better when they are part of a longer Austrian holiday than as automatic daily commuting bases. Our three-night comparison uses arrival Friday 9 July and departure Monday 12 July. Arriving Thursday to see Friday from the start means paying for an additional night.
This guide was checked October 2026. Official euro ticket examples appear below alongside the weekend budget. Transport operators may refine their event arrangements before July. Save the final arrival instructions with your tickets rather than relying on an old screenshot.

Why go
Our verdict
Our opinion · how the 1–5 scores workAustria suits fans who want landscape, visible changes of elevation and a weekend that feels removed from a city centre. The hillside setting makes the choice between a reserved seat and standing admission particularly meaningful. A seat buys certainty about where you will watch; general admission buys flexibility, with the effort of finding and keeping a useful position.
Camping can make the evenings as memorable as the sessions, provided your group likes the reality of camping: noise, shared facilities, carrying equipment and being outside in changing weather. Do not book it merely because a headline pitch price looks cheap. A group sharing gear and a car has a different calculation from someone flying alone with a tent.
Our recommendation is Graz for mixed groups, and camping for committed race fans who want the social atmosphere. Choose Salzburg or Vienna because you want time in those cities, then decide whether attending fewer days or changing accommodation near the race makes more sense. Saving on a room while losing hours to transfers is rarely a good trade.

2027 tickets — on sale; exact opening date not stated in checked sources.
2027 published prices, checked October 2026: General Admission weekend €170 or Sunday €155; T10 weekend €435; T3 weekend €570; Steiermark weekend €730. Child GA tickets are free but must be ordered, while listed child grandstand tickets cost €36. The child must not have turned 15 on race day and must accompany a paying adult. Digital tickets arrive no later than ten days before the race. Official circuit ticket shop.
2027 transfer and resale: tickets are non-transferable and may not be resold without the promoter’s prior written consent. No open transfer or resale permission is offered by these terms: contact the seller if your plans change. Official 2027 ticket conditions, checked October 2026.
Read the map alongside the category. Choose Sunday admission or the full weekend, then book your campsite separately. If travelling with friends, agree on the actual stand and sector before separate orders. Select adjacent seats in the same block when booking together.
The same shop explains child ticket eligibility and accessible bookings. Order the required child ticket rather than assuming a child can simply enter with an adult. Check the terms against the child's age on race day. Keep the confirmation, cancellation conditions and delivery instructions offline. Resolve resale and transfer questions with the original seller before paying.
Buy only from the organiser, F1’s official ticket store or its listed agents — unofficial sellers may sell invalid tickets.
Hospitality & upgrades
2027 hospitality — official Paddock Club and circuit lounge options; request the dated package quote.
Austria does have official hospitality: Formula 1 Paddock Club is sold through the circuit’s ticket shop, and companies or larger groups can request an exclusive F1 lounge. No public from-price was displayed on the linked pages. Camping and bus-shuttle products have their own tabs in the official sales portal; a grandstand ticket does not include a campsite pitch. Getting there from the UK
Graz airport S1 timetable and fare example (2026 edition — 2027 details not yet published).
Airport to city: three practical arrival routes
| Airport | Route into town | Published journey and service | Official information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graz (GRZ) | Walk about 300 m from the terminal to Flughafen Graz-Feldkirchen station, then take the S1 towards Graz Hauptbahnhof. Bus 630 outside the terminal is an alternative via Puntigam to Zentralfriedhof, with tram 5 into the centre. | The airport’s July 2026 S1 timetable shows a 13-minute airport-to-Hauptbahnhof journey on typical daytime trains, generally twice an hour. It lists a Zone 101 one-hour ticket at €3.30. Add the terminal walk and waiting time; this is a 2026 example, not a July 2027 timetable or fare. | Airport bus and station directions; 2026 S1 timetable and fares (PDF) |
| Salzburg (SZG) | Bus 2 from the airport to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof; bus 10 goes to the city centre Monday–Saturday. | The airport publishes about 23 minutes for bus 2, every 15–20 minutes (20 minutes on Sundays and public holidays). Bus 10 is about 15 minutes to the centre, every 15 minutes. These are published services checked October 2026; buy the current fare from the operator. | Airport bus routes, ticket options and timetables |
| Vienna (VIE) | Railjet to Wien Hauptbahnhof for onward rail connections, or S7 to Wien Mitte for a Vienna city stay. | The airport lists 15 minutes to Hauptbahnhof and 25 minutes to Wien Mitte, both at 30-minute intervals, checked October 2026. Compare the dated ÖBB fare and train before booking; these are city transfers, not journeys to Spielberg. | Airport rail connections and ÖBB planner |
The Red Bull Ring’s airport guide gives indicative airport-transfer comparisons of Graz 88 km/about 1 hour, Vienna 200 km/about 2 hours and Salzburg 235 km/about 2½ hours, checked October 2026. Treat them as planning references: they do not include your flight arrival procedures or guarantee race-day traffic, parking and the walk to a gate.
For a rail-based race day, plan the separate journey to Knittelfeld and the circuit’s final shuttle connection. The July 2027 through-connections, Salzburg/Vienna transfer fares and final return services still need dated operator confirmation.
Search flights from Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle as well as London. Search the actual travel dates for both direct and connecting services. Compare the complete route, including a connection, baggage, UK airport transport and the last Austrian connection. A cheaper flight arriving after onward public transport ends can become the expensive option.
Graz is the first airport to price for a Graz base. Use Graz Airport's official transport information to check the current bus and rail options and the walking connection to the station. Do not confuse landing time with arrival at Graz Hauptbahnhof. Allow for bags and an unfamiliar interchange before booking a separate onward train.
For Salzburg, consult Salzburg Airport for the city bus connection, then ÖBB for the journey towards your actual base. Salzburg works well as a flight gateway or holiday stop; Graz is the stronger starting point for three circuit days. If a connection through Vienna gives a better arrival time, compare it honestly with the added overland leg.
For the circuit, start with the official event arrival guide. Compare a reserved event coach with rail towards Knittelfeld and the advertised final connection. Verify the exact boarding point, service day and return booking. A bus bearing the name of a nearby city may collect from somewhere inconvenient for your hotel. Build walking time at the circuit into both directions.
Rail from Britain is possible as a longer journey: begin with Eurostar to the continent, then compare connections through Germany and Austria using the operators' planners. Check station changes, separate-ticket risks and an overnight stop. It is a sensible holiday choice for someone enjoying the journey, but do not squeeze it into the same time allowance as a flight.
Driving through a Channel crossing can suit a group carrying camping equipment. Price ferry or shuttle, fuel, road charges, overnight stops and the parking or camping package. Check entry requirements, vehicle documents and road rules before departure. Share driving only between properly insured drivers. A tired all-night return immediately after Sunday is a poor way to make a shared-car budget appear cheaper.
Monday is our default return day. Sunday requires an unusually forgiving itinerary: leaving your viewing position, walking out, waiting for transport, collecting bags and reaching the airport all come before check-in. Never build the plan around a best-case journey time. If taking Monday off is impossible, compare a shorter visit with a different race before committing.
Before you go — UK travellers
For a British-citizen tourist passport, check the issue date as well as expiry: issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for at least three months after leaving Schengen. Visa-free visits share a 90-day limit in any 180 days. EES may require a photograph and fingerprints at the border; registration is free and needs no advance application. Children aged 11 or younger are not fingerprinted. Allow extra time for entry and exit checks. Country entry requirements, checked October 2026. Carry a GHIC and separate travel insurance. Read the full UK-traveller checklist for roaming, emergency contacts, plugs, currency and entry-system updates. At the October 2026 check, GOV.UK says no action is required for ETIAS and that the EU will announce its launch date. Recheck the rules before your 2027 departure on the official EU site.
Drivers need an Austrian motorway vignette or applicable toll payment before using motor ways and express ways. Buy via ASFINAG’s official vignette service and check activation rules before using a newly purchased digital product. GOV.UK driving and ID rules checked October 2026. Austria requires easy access to your passport; a UK driving licence is not accepted as official identification.
Money, language, power and practical essentials
- Money: use euros (EUR). Cards are widely accepted, though not everywhere; carry some cash. Vienna’s official tourist board describes 5–10% as customary for service, but do not add it again if already included. Money guidance.
- Power: sockets are types C and F, 230V, 50Hz. Pack a suitable adaptor and check the voltage label on your own appliances. Electrical Safety First adaptor guidance.
- Three useful phrases: German: Hallo (hello), Danke (thank you), Bitte (please).
- Emergency: call 112. Save the GOV.UK emergency contacts offline.
- Health: read GOV.UK health advice and the country page from TravelHealthPro before departure; arrange insurance covering your health conditions and planned activities.
- Local rules: Have your passport readily accessible: a UK driving licence is not recognised as official ID. Validate public transport tickets where required before travelling. Read the full GOV.UK laws and safety advice.
- Phone: check your own network’s destination, daily charge and data allowance before switching roaming on. Download tickets and offline maps first. Do not assume a UK or European roaming bundle covers every country or network on this trip.

Vienna has the strongest big-city holiday appeal of these choices. Use it for a wider trip and compare extra travel time with a night closer to the circuit.

Search Vienna stays · 9–12 July 2027 ↗Graz is our strongest all-round starting point. You can leave non-fans with a city to explore, find ordinary restaurants away from the circuit and separate race logistics from every evening. Choose your hotel around a confirmed coach stop or useful rail connection. A pleasant old-town location is less helpful if every morning starts with a complicated cross-city transfer.
Salzburg offers substantial holiday appeal, but treat the race commute as a separate feasibility test. Write down each train or coach in both directions for every day you intend to attend. If the last return does not fit the programme, change base or reduce circuit days rather than assuming a taxi will rescue the plan cheaply.
Vienna has the widest city-break scope of these three suggestions, but is our least attractive default for three consecutive track days. It can make an excellent before-or-after stop. Consider dividing the trip, while recognising that moving hotels costs time and may add luggage-storage problems. Compare total transport spending before describing a cheaper Vienna room as a saving.
Near-circuit camping removes the long daily city journey but adds a different set of decisions. Read the specific site's noise policy, facilities, pitch size, arrival window and vehicle rules. The organiser's accommodation page links camping information. Pick a campsite by its facilities, quiet hours and route to your entrance.
Search dates: 2027-07-09 to 2027-07-12 (three nights, two adults sharing). Arriving Thursday adds a fourth night; change the dates before booking. Match the hotel’s walk to your station or pickup point before reserving.
Meals in Graz
For a city morning or an extra day, head to Kaiser-Josef-Markt or Lendplatz to explore Graz’s market food. On circuit mornings, put speed first: arrange an early hotel breakfast or supplies in the room. After the return, eat near your accommodation and save the longer restaurant evening for a day when you can linger.

True cost of the weekend
Two adults share one room for three nights, Friday–Monday. For Austrian Grand Prix, admission covers three race days; spend more for better seating, a more convenient bed and longer meals.
Return economy flights, airport-to-base travel and a shared basic room form the core trip. Circuit connections have a separate line. Salzburg and Vienna need a larger transfer budget than Graz; camping needs its own pitch-and-equipment calculation.
| Cost | Budget | Mid-range | Splurge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tickets | £250 | £450 | £800 |
| Return UK travel | £180 | £300 | £600 |
| 3 nights’ stay | £150 | £300 | £650 |
| Circuit transport | £90 | £180 | £350 |
| Food & drink | £90 | £150 | £250 |
| Total | £760 | £1,380 | £2,650 |
Estimates per adult, checked October 2026. Use them to plan, then swap in your real prices.
Choose where you want the comfort: a reserved seat, a city room or a well-equipped campsite. Budget needs deliberate decisions on baggage and meals; mid-range gives more room for a seated viewing experience and a comfortable Graz base. For Splurge, compare the practical benefit of the seat and hotel separately rather than upgrading both automatically.
Build the camping comparison from the pitch upwards: occupants, vehicle charges, equipment, baggage and any extra nights. Sharing kit can help, especially for a group driving together, but a solo traveller carries more of those fixed costs. Keep enough for breakfast before your departure and a meal after the return. A room with an easy morning route is often better spending than a distant address with a small nightly saving.
Grandstands & general admission
Hillside general admission is the value proposition to assess first. Hillside elevation opens the view across the circuit. Arrive early on race day to choose a comfortable patch of grass. Your experience depends on the exact permitted area, crowd, weather and how early you settle. Test the sightline at your own eye level rather than choosing from a photograph taken above people's heads.
For a reserved seat, compare the current official map for T3, T10, Steiermark, Red Bull and Start-Ziel categories rather than treating all grandstands as interchangeable. Braking-zone viewing suits someone interested in wheel-to-wheel moves; start/finish viewing prioritises the grid, pit activity and race rituals. For pit-lane activity, inspect the view from the exact block and row.
Shade and big screens need their own checks. Ask about cover and a readable screen for your exact row. Use the seller's covered and videowall information, then ask about the precise category. Carry sun and rain protection even if buying a covered option.
Expect the exit to be part of the day, particularly after Sunday. Walking from an elevated viewing area to the correct coach or parking area takes effort before the traffic queue begins. Agree a meeting point away from the densest flow. Choose your return departure point before committing to a stand on the far side of the venue.
For a first visit, compare a reserved T3 or T10 product with hillside general admission rather than assuming the lowest admission price is automatically best. The seat gives you a defined place to return to; the hillside favours spectators who enjoy scouting a view. On Friday, practise the walk to your return departure point and note where your group can regroup without blocking the crowd.
At the circuit
Bring a digital ticket saved offline: the seller sends grandstand and general-admission tickets no later than ten days before the race, checked October 2026. Accessibility matters when choosing a stand: the seller identifies Start-Ziel wheelchair spaces and says other grandstands are not barrier-free. Official seating and accessibility information. The 2026 programme includes an F1 Fan Zone and Steiermark Village, with support racing and driver appearances; 2027 performers and appearances are not yet confirmed.
The official Red Bull Ring app has an interactive site map and route planner. Use it to locate facilities and plan your route around the venue; it is an app-based map, not a confirmed printed 2027 gate plan.
Read the official venue entry information alongside the event’s spectator guide before packing (checked October 2026).
Current venue rules, checked October 2026: for grandstands, keep luggage within DIN A3 size and small enough to fit your seat area. Cold snacks for personal consumption, plastic bottles, standard drinks cans and thermos flasks up to 1.5 litres are permitted. Outside alcohol, glass, cool boxes, drones, weapons and pyrotechnics are banned; power banks must be no larger than a phone. Compact umbrellas and folding chairs are for standing areas. Official admission criteria, updated March 2026.
2026 facilities — 2027 details to be confirmed: food kiosks are spread around the venue, and many outlets take cards or the Red Bull Ring Cashless Card; some, including the Fan Shop, accept cash. Toilets are spread around the circuit, with accessible toilets marked on the app’s interactive map. The organiser provided free drinking water and mist stations at the 2026 F1 weekend. Race weekend day by day
2026 —2027 details not yet published; local times checked October 2026: Friday Formula 3 practice 09:55, Formula 2 practice 11:05, F1 practice 13:30 and 17:00. Saturday Formula 3 Sprint 10:05, F1 practice 12:30, Formula 2 Sprint 14:15, qualifying 16:00. Sunday Formula 3 race 08:40, Formula 2 race 10:10, Porsche Supercup 11:55, drivers’parade 13:00, F1 Grand Prix 15:00. Official 2026 programme. Gate clocks are not the same as Fan Zone opening hours.
Friday is the day to learn your route. If arriving that morning, accept that you may miss activity rather than rushing a tight flight-to-circuit connection. Locate toilets, water, your exit and the meeting point. General-admission visitors can assess viewing options, but should not assume a quiet Friday position will be equally available on Sunday.
Saturday should be organised around the published programme and your return transport. Austria is not marked as a Sprint weekend in this guide's 2027 calendar. Confirm session times before committing to a restaurant or separate evening journey. Take the opportunity to test how much food, water and clothing your group really needs for a full day outside.
Sunday needs the clearest plan. Eat before the busiest queues, agree how to reconnect if mobile reception fails and know which departure service you are booked on. A relaxed city meal after the return is a better default than a rigid reservation. Monday is for returning home or beginning a properly budgeted Austrian holiday; save luggage arrangements and station directions in advance.
Getting back after the race
Return to Knittelfeld on the free circuit shuttle. The published service continues every 20 minutes until 20:00; Friday/Saturday later departures run every 30 minutes to 23:00, while Sunday stops at 20:00 (checked October 2026). Official shuttle hours. Choose an onward train you can reach after queuing, and treat a later dinner in Graz as the flexible part of the evening.
Before and after the race
- Schlossberg and the Clock Tower — choose the hilltop viewpoints for a first look at Graz. The tourism board describes both a lift and a funicular, so a visit does not have to mean taking the steps.
- Kaiser-Josef-Markt — try a morning food stop behind the Opera House. The published market days are Monday–Saturday; it is closed on Sundays and public holidays, checked October 2026.
- Graz Old Town walking route — use the tourism board’s route through Landhaushof, Hauptplatz and the historic streets, finishing at Kaiser-Josef-Platz. Keep market shopping for a day it opens.
- Landhauskeller and Katze Katze — a named dinner and bar pairing at Schmiedgasse 9. The tourism board lists Austrian/Styrian cooking at the restaurant and a separate bar at the same address; check each venue’s own opening days before planning a late return.
- Schöckl Mountain — make this a separate day out from Graz, with the cable car, summit viewpoints and a walk. Check cable-car operation and weather for your date; allow the trip its own day rather than squeezing it around a circuit commute.
- Red Bull Ring tour — retain an extra circuit day if the group wants a behind-the-scenes visit. Bull’s Lane is the venue’s named bistro option. Check tour availability and restaurant access independently of your Grand Prix admission.
Attractions, restaurants and visitor information checked 19 October 2026. These are separate holiday ideas; meals, admissions and travel sit outside the standard race-weekend estimate.
Graz is the easiest recommendation for the person who does not want three days of racing. The official Graz tourism site is the starting point for the old town, Schlossberg and the city's museums. Build a day around one main attraction with time for lunch, rather than trying to follow the fans' early starts.
The Schlossberg can provide a city viewpoint without making the day about motorsport; check the lift or funicular information if steps are an issue. The Kunsthaus is an option for someone who prefers contemporary art and an indoor break. Confirm opening days and current exhibitions instead of assuming every museum operates the same timetable.
Salzburg and Vienna offer strong independent city programmes if the group intentionally splits bases or adds nights. Do not ask a non-fan to spend the whole weekend close to the circuit merely to simplify the fans' transport. Agree when you will meet, who has the room key and what happens if the return coach is delayed. Separate plans work best when nobody must wait hungry for a precise race-day arrival.
First-timers & families
Bring properly fitting ear defenders for children and hearing protection for adults. Introduce them before the trip so they are familiar rather than a race-day argument. Plan short breaks, a visible meeting point and a way for a child to identify the accompanying adult. A packed programme is optional; leaving early is a legitimate family decision.
Footwear matters on hills, grass and wet approaches. Pack layers, waterproofs, sunscreen and a hat, and check the current permitted bottle, food and bag rules before packing. Keep medicines accessible and tickets available offline. A charged phone is useful, but printed essentials and a written address protect against a flat battery.
Choose camping for the experience, not as an automatic family discount. Ask about quiet areas, showers, lighting and the walk to your gate. A hotel can be worth more than its price difference when children need predictable sleep. Check child-ticket conditions against the official seller and book every required ticket. Leave enough margin in each day for food, toilets and a slower walk back.
Accessibility
The Red Bull Ring’s official accessibility information, checked 19 October 2026, confirms a ramp and toilets on the same level for wheelchair users in the start-finish grandstand, with special parking rights for wheelchair-ticket holders. Signposted accessible parking is available for disabled-ticket holders; a reduced ticket requires the disability pass to be shown. The venue also offers audio description. Assistance around the extensive site is limited and cannot be guaranteed. The 2027 seller identifies the Start-Ziel wheelchair ticket and warns that other grandstands are not barrier-free; confirm the companion option and the accepted documentation before buying.
Your whole route matters as much as the viewing platform. Ask about the surface from arrival point to seat, accessible toilets, gradients, shuttle boarding and the return queue. Reserve a coach that confirms the wheelchair space or lift you need. Contact the hotel separately about the actual room, bathroom and entrance rather than accepting a general accessibility label.
Check before you book: confirm the final 2027 accessible arrival arrangements, reserved parking or drop-off instructions and assistance contact directly with the organiser. Record the answers and take them with you.
FAQs
Is Graz better than Vienna for the race?
Graz is our preferred starting point for repeated circuit journeys. Vienna makes more sense as an additional city break unless your confirmed transport plan supports the daily commute.
Is general admission a reserved seat?
No. It gives access to the permitted standing areas. Position, crowd and terrain affect the view, so arrive prepared to find your own place.
Should I camp?
Camp if you want the atmosphere and can manage the equipment, facilities and noise. Compare the complete campsite cost with a shared hotel room before deciding.
Can I fly home Sunday?
Only with substantial margin after the race, exit and airport transfer. Monday is the safer default for a full Sunday visit.
Are the pound budgets live quotes?
No. Use the same five spending lines for your own comparison. Obtain current ticket, travel and room quotes before paying.
