Baku puts the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the middle of a proper city break: stone lanes, broad waterfront promenades and racing between city buildings. The 2027 race weekend is 24–26 September at Baku City Circuit. Our three-night stay runs from Friday 24 to Monday 27 September.
Choose a central room and a reserved seat for a straightforward first visit. The journey from Britain is the complicated part; once settled in Baku, a walkable base can remove the daily circuit coach journey altogether. Difficulty from the UK: Moderate in our trip-planning comparison, reflecting the flight connections and entry preparation rather than the geography of the grandstand.
Baku uses Azerbaijan Time, UTC+4, putting it three hours ahead of the UK during this September weekend under current clock arrangements. Put flights and race sessions into your calendar in local time. A late arrival can feel later than the clock on your phone suggests, so keep the first evening simple.

Why go
Our verdict
Our opinion · how the 1–5 scores workGo for the combination of a close-up street-racing setting and a city you can explore between sessions. The circuit runs beside the Old City and the Caspian waterfront, giving this weekend a different character from a rural European track. The pleasure is in switching from a racing seat to dinner in town without spending the evening in a car park.
It suits couples and mixed groups particularly well. One person can spend a full day following practice while another explores the historic centre, and both can meet for dinner. Agree a meeting place outside the ticket perimeter rather than trying to describe your grandstand exit over a noisy phone call.
The trade-off is the journey and the way the circuit divides central streets. A hotel that looks close on a map may sit on the wrong side of a barrier. Spend your planning effort on the entrance route and flight connection first. Once those work, you can spend more of the weekend enjoying Baku and less of it solving small transport problems.

2027 tickets — 2027 ticket sale date not yet announced.
The official 2027 F1 store and the organiser’s ticket page currently offer updates/waitlist, rather than published 2027 seat prices. BCCticket terms prohibit unauthorised resale and require under 18 s to be accompanied by an adult. Under-twos can sit on an adult’s lap without a separate seat; Junior Tickets are for ages 2–16 and must be bought with an adult ticket. The organiser uses mobile-app access for tickets. Checked October 2026. Exact 2027 product availability, price and delivery release are to be confirmed.
General Admission/Roaming and a named grandstand from-price for 2027 were not confirmed on the organiser’s ticket page when checked in October 2026. It directs buyers to the official BCC app for ticket access. The published ticket terms restrict resale and transfers without written BCC and FOWC consent; no public fan-resale route was verified.
Choose your viewing priority before your price band. For a first visit, a reserved grandstand with a useful screen makes it easier to follow the whole race. If the first-corner action matters most, start with the main-straight end of the circuit. If the historic setting is the draw, compare the city-gate section. Review the seating map alongside your hotel map.
Choose your preferred view first, then compare the total ticket price including booking fees. Compare the final checkout total, currency, fees and included days when tickets are available. Check whether any entertainment, support-race access or Thursday activity is included in the particular ticket you are buying; build your trip around the racing you most want to see.
Check before you book: use the organiser’s 2027 ticket map and sales terms for the final stand layout, prices and inclusions.
Buy only from the organiser, F1’s official ticket store or its listed agents — unofficial sellers may sell invalid tickets.
Hospitality & upgrades
2027 hospitality — official waitlist; named package details and prices await release.
The official Baku hospitality waitlist names Paddock Club and local hospitality options but does not publish 2027 package prices or complete inclusions. Register for the official release and compare the actual view, catering and access before paying; a street-circuit bar booking is not a race ticket. Checked October 2026.
Getting there from the UK
2027 travel planning — standing arrival routes checked October 2026; confirm the dated services for the journey.
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Aeroexpress serves Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Baku Railway Station/28 May Metro, with a quoted 30-minute journey. It costs AZN 1.30 plus AZN 2 for a reusable BakıKart. The airport publishes 20-minute intervals 06:00–23:15, and 45-minute intervals overnight; all checked October 2026. Official airport Aeroexpress information. The tourist board’s day frequency differs, so use the airport operator for this transfer. Continue from 28 May towards your central base; the airport bus is not a circuit shuttle.
Search connecting flights from your nearest airport before committing to a drive to London. Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle all deserve a comparison for the complete journey to Baku, including any repositioning leg. Compare Istanbul and other available airline hubs on your actual dates. Buy a through ticket where possible so a delayed first flight is handled within one booking.
Look at arrival time, transfer terminal, connection length and the final journey home together. A cheap outward fare loses its appeal if the return needs a long overnight stop. Carry essential medication, a change of clothes and your race documents in hand luggage. For a Friday-to-Monday stay, favour an arrival early enough to settle in before the sessions you want; add Thursday if Friday practice is a priority.
Monday is the sensible return target. It lets you watch the race, eat dinner and pack without racing an airport deadline. On arrival, use the airport’s current official transport information or arrange a transfer with your accommodation. Send the property your flight number and request the exact drop-off point if central road closures affect the address.
Read the visa, passport and border requirements in Before you go before booking the Baku flight. Apply through the official ASAN portal linked there and keep the printed approval with your travel documents.
Air travel is the practical route: current guidance restricts land and sea entry. Use flights for this weekend. ASAN’s published standard charge, checked October 2026, is US$20 plus a US$9 service fee; the travel allowance includes the visa.
Check before you book: read the official entry rules and FCDO advice for your passport before paying, then again before departure.
Before you go — UK travellers
British-citizen visitors need a visa. Your passport must usually expire at least six months after arrival and have two blank pages. Standard e-visas normally permit a 30-day visit within 90 days; the passport must also cover three months after visa expiry. Apply through official ASAN e-visa at least three days ahead and carry a printout. An urgent service costs extra. GOV.UK entry requirements, checked October 2026. Air entry is unrestricted; land/sea entry is restricted. For stays over 15 days, register with the migration authority.
Currency is Azerbaijani manat(AZN); cards are widely accepted in the capital but keep some cash. Official practical information. Check your UK network’s non-EU roaming cost or buy a suitable e SIM. Carry travel insurance; GOV.UK health advice links Travel Health Pro. Official GOV.UK emergency numbers are ambulance 103, fire 101 and police 102. Emergency contacts. Avoid photographing military or other restricted installations and read local laws and security advice. Full UK-traveller checklist. Checked October 2026.
Money, language, power and practical essentials
- Money: use Azerbaijani manat (AZN). Cards work in most Baku shops and restaurants, but carry manat for smaller businesses. Keep your card in sight and use an ATM inside a bank when possible. Check any service charge before adding an optional tip. Money guidance.
- Power: sockets are types C and F, 220V, 50Hz. Pack a suitable adaptor and check the voltage label on your own appliances. Electrical Safety First adaptor guidance.
- Three useful phrases: Azerbaijani: Salam (hello), Necəyədir? (how much is it?), … haradadır? (where is …?). Phrase reference.
- Emergency: call 101 for fire, 102 for police and 103 for an ambulance. Save the GOV.UK emergency contacts offline.
- Health: read GOV.UK health advice and the country page from TravelHealthPro before departure; arrange insurance covering your health conditions and planned activities.
- Local rules: Carry your passport and keep a separate copy. Do not import a drone without the required residence rights and permissions. Treat places of remembrance respectfully and ask before photographing sensitive religious sites. Read the full GOV.UK laws and safety advice.
- Phone: check your own network’s destination, daily charge and data allowance before switching roaming on. Download tickets and offline maps first. Do not assume a UK or European roaming bundle covers every country or network on this trip.

The Old City keeps the historic sights and a choice of small places to eat close at hand. Check which gate your grandstand uses before booking, because the racing route and barriers can make the shortest line on the map unusable.

Baku’s central districts let you make the weekend a city break without a daily out-of-town transfer. Compare the hotel entrance with the stand entrance rather than paying purely for a map label saying “circuit view”.
To the circuit: Baku → Azerbaijan Grand Prix: Walk or Metro to match your stand; 2027 gate walk pending. Official transport information.
Search Baku stays · 24–27 September 2027 ↗Start with the Old City, Icherisheher, if you want atmosphere outside the racing hours. It puts historic lanes and places to eat at the centre of your stay. Choose by the actual street and entrance, then ask the hotel how pedestrians reach it during the event. A room described as central still needs a workable route to your assigned circuit gate.
Central Baku around the shopping and dining streets near Fountain Square is the second search area. It gives non-fans an easy independent base and a choice of evening meals. Compare room noise, breakfast times, lift access and late check-in alongside the nightly rate. A quiet room and reliable sleep can be worth more than a decorative balcony.
For food, use the Old City for a leisurely sit-down meal and the central dining streets for a wider evening choice. Read the menu before sitting down, agree the bill currency and ask about service charges. Put one relaxed dinner into the plan and keep the other evenings flexible around your energy and the racing timetable.
Search dates: 2027-09-24 to 2027-09-27 (three nights, two adults sharing). Arriving Thursday adds a fourth night; change the dates before booking. Match the hotel’s walk to your station or pickup point before reserving.
Our stay searches use Friday 24 to Monday 27 September, three nights. If your flights require an earlier arrival or later departure, change the dates before comparing the total. Ask about luggage storage on Monday and the taxi collection point outside any road closure. Avoid paying a premium for a claimed track view unless the property explains the precise room and what can actually be seen.
Getting to the circuit on race day
| Base | Mode / departure | Price | Frequency | Journey | Official information |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Old City | Walk to your assigned grandstand gate | No additional fare if walking | Follow event controlled crossings | Hotel/gate dependent; not one published universal walk | Official circuit location |
| Central Baku | Metro to an appropriate central station then walk | Tour ist board quotes AZN 0.60 single; checked October 2026 | Tour ist board quotes 2–3 min; checked October 2026 | Depends on the entrance; 2027 pedestrian plan unpublished | Official city transport information |
The circuit runs along the central waterfront and around the Old City. Do not order a car to an entrance on the other side of a closed racing street: save the final 2027 pedestrian crossing map when released.
True cost of the weekend
Two adults share one room for three nights, Friday–Monday. For Azerbaijan Grand Prix, admission covers three race days; spend more for better seating, a more convenient bed and longer meals.
Return UK air travel, airport transfers and an e-visa allowance are included in the travel line. Circuit transport covers local journeys once in Baku; a central base keeps many days walkable. Add extra nights for a longer Caspian holiday.
| Cost | Budget | Mid-range | Splurge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tickets | £200 | £400 | £750 |
| Return UK travel | £450 | £650 | £1,100 |
| 3 nights’ stay | £150 | £300 | £650 |
| Circuit transport | £30 | £70 | £200 |
| Food & drink | £90 | £150 | £300 |
| Total | £920 | £1,570 | £3,000 |
Estimates per adult, checked October 2026. Use them to plan, then swap in your real prices.
Start by comparing the complete flight itinerary: arrival hour, baggage, airport transfer and the journey home. Put UK airport transport and the visa in the travel line before comparing airlines. If a connection adds an overnight hotel, give that extra night its own place in your holiday budget.
A central room saves daily taxi spending and keeps dinner close after the race. Put your next upgrade into a reserved seat with a readable screen. For Splurge, choose the room and grandstand deliberately: spend on the view, access and comfort your group will actually use, with a separate allowance for any extra city days.
Grandstands & general admission
For a first-timer, begin by comparing Absheron with the other reserved options. Formula 1’s circuit guide highlights the main-straight end for braking into Turn 1 and the Icheri Sheher stand for the city-gate section. Treat those as different experiences: overtaking and the start-area atmosphere on one hand, the unusual historic setting on the other.
Ask about the exact block and row, screen sightline and view through fencing. Main-straight proximity is useful for the start and pit-lane interest, but the ticket description should explain which part of the pit area you can see. A higher row can help you read a corner, while the best photograph and the easiest view of the racing may be different seats.
For general admission, study the advertised viewing areas before buying. A city street circuit does not offer the open hillsides of Austria or Spa. Think about standing time, crowd depth and access to a screen. If someone in the group needs a dependable seat, choose a reserved ticket rather than relying on finding somewhere to rest.
Prioritise shade and a comfortable route back as well as the view. Use the current seat description to check cover; bring sun protection and a light layer for a breezy waterfront evening. After the race, let the first exit surge go if your schedule allows, then walk towards dinner instead of summoning a car at the busiest gate.
Check before you book: confirm cover, screen positions and gate access on the organiser’s final 2027 map.
At the circuit
Carry your passport or the valid identification specified by your ticket. BCC reserves bag-search and refusal rights; its ticket terms restrict drinks and large camera equipment. Official ticket conditions. Check the organiser’s latest guidance for bag sizes, water refills, payment methods and gate instructions. Official FAQ. Checked October 2026. Expect wind along the Caspian waterfront and take a layer for after the track action.
Current BCC entry rules, checked October 2026: bags must fit under your seat; large or rigid-frame bags, glass, drinks, large umbrellas, drones and camera equipment over 30 cm are restricted. There is no cloakroom. Read BCC’s entry conditions before packing. Use the official Baku City Circuit app for the interactive circuit map. A numeric bag limit, current vendor payment policy, toilet plan and water-refill locations need confirmation from the organiser.
Race weekend day by day
The organiser’s current event updates do not yet provide a timed programme. 2027 gates, race start and support clocks remain unpublished. Book 24–26 September 2027 from the official F1 event listing, then add the actual clocks once the organiser publishes its dated schedule. Checked October 2026.
Friday 24 September: arrive, check in and do a reconnaissance walk to the correct entrance. Learn which crossing connects your hotel side of the circuit to the grandstand side. Screenshot the route and choose a backup meeting point. If travel puts you in late, eat near the room and save the ambitious sightseeing for a rested morning.
Saturday 25 September: make this your full circuit day. Eat breakfast before leaving, arrive with time for security and locate toilets, water and the screen before the important sessions. Take a proper break rather than standing in the sun through every gap. Follow the published timetable for qualifying and support racing; set a reminder for the first session you care about.
Sunday 26 September: pack the day bag the night before and keep the morning uncomplicated. Aim to be seated before the build-up rather than joining the final entrance queue. After the race, use the permitted pedestrian route out and meet your group away from the immediate exit. Book dinner with enough flexibility to absorb a slow walk home.
Monday 27 September: keep the morning for the airport journey. Have the hotel arrange the collection point in advance, leave time for road diversions and carry the printed documents where you can reach them. Anyone extending the city break can move the sightseeing to Monday and Tuesday, when it no longer competes with the sessions.
Getting back after the race
Walk away from the fenced circuit on the marked public route for your hotel or Metro entrance. The tourist board currently advertises Metro 06:00–midnight, checked October 2026; these are ordinary hours, not a guaranteed 2027 event extension. Official practical information. No 2027 last-race shuttle, taxi pick-up map or fixed exit duration has been confirmed. Keep your accommodation on the same practical side of the closures if you want to walk home.
Before and after the race
- Icherisheher Old City — walk the lanes and plan a food stop away from the busiest circuit exits.
- Maiden’s Tower and Shirvanshahs’ Palace — choose the historic set-piece visit for a non-race day.
- Baku Boulevard and Flame Towers — explore the seafront and city skyline outside the fenced route.
- Gobustan rock art — add a separate day trip instead of squeezing it into race morning.
Make Baku a shared destination rather than a three-day wait for the racing to end. Start with the UNESCO-listed Old City, including the Shirvanshahs’ Palace and Maiden Tower. Pick a short walk with time for tea instead of trying to tick off every monument. A slower visit works particularly well after a late flight.
The Caspian waterfront boulevard is the natural counterpoint to the enclosed lanes of Icherisheher. Use accessible open sections for a stroll and a café stop, taking the event perimeter into account. The National Carpet Museum is another clear anchor for a culture-focused day; check its opening arrangements and the walking route before setting out.
The official Azerbaijan tourism site is a useful starting point for museums, architecture and local food. Let the non-fan choose one main outing each day and arrange dinner in a neighbourhood both groups can reach. Carry independent phone power and agree a written meeting time so nobody depends on hearing a call over the track noise.
Keep longer excursions for an extra night. On race days, a city-based plan is easier to adapt around road closures and tired feet. A relaxed lunch, museum visit and waterfront walk can make a satisfying day without the pressure of catching a tour vehicle on the far side of the circuit.
First-timers & families
Bring proper ear defenders for children and fit them before leaving home. Add sunscreen, hats, comfortable shoes and light layers, then keep the bag small enough to carry all day. A power bank, offline map, saved ticket and printed accommodation address solve more problems than an overloaded backpack. Photograph the child’s ticket details and write an adult’s contact number somewhere accessible.
Choose the seat around the least mobile person in the group. Children may manage the racing happily but tire of queues, steps and waiting for the gate to clear. Build a seated meal and a quiet break into the day. Practise a simple meeting-point rule in case anyone becomes separated, using a fixed landmark outside the main flow of people.
A hotel is the useful default here; Baku is a city break rather than a circuit-camping trip. Prioritise air conditioning, breakfast and sleep. Ask about a family room’s actual bed arrangement rather than assuming a sofa is included. For babies or toddlers, consider how the room, lifts and circuit routes work together before committing to a full three days.
Check before you book: read the organiser’s 2027 rules for bags, food, drinks, pushchairs and child tickets. Pack to those rules and leave unnecessary valuables at the hotel, where an extra bag can be stored rather than carried through every queue.
Accessibility
Contact Baku City Circuit before choosing tickets if you need wheelchair viewing, step-free access or a companion arrangement. Describe the complete journey you need to make: arrival point, gate, viewing position, toilets and exit. Ask for the relevant route in writing so the hotel and transfer provider can help with the same plan.
For accommodation, request photographs or measurements where the detail matters. Confirm the entrance threshold, lift dimensions, bathroom arrangement and whether the airport vehicle can stop at the door during road closures. Historic streets may be attractive but their surfaces and gradients can make the final part of a journey harder than the map suggests.
Build a shorter daily route with places to rest, and carry enough medication and phone power for a slower exit. A hotel close to a workable accessible gate can justify a higher room price.
Check before you book: have the organiser confirm the 2027 viewing allocation, companion process, accessible toilets and step-free connections before you pay for travel.
FAQs
Do British visitors need a visa?
Yes, under the official guidance checked October 2026. Use the ASAN government portal and check the current requirements for your passport before applying. Carry a printed visa with your passport and allow time to fix any application error.
Where is the best base?
Start with Icherisheher or central Baku near the dining and shopping streets. Match the property to your circuit gate and pedestrian crossings. A central postcode is only useful when the event route works on foot.
Can I fly home on Sunday?
Plan on Monday for a relaxed full race day. A Sunday flight needs a careful check against the confirmed race timetable, exit route and airport journey. Do that calculation before buying the fare.
Which stand should a first-time visitor consider?
Compare Absheron for the main-straight end and Turn 1 action with Icheri Sheher for the historic city-gate setting. Then choose the block by screen view, fencing, cover and walking route, rather than the stand name alone.
Is this a good trip for someone who does not follow F1?
Yes, if you plan the city break together. The Old City, waterfront, museums and restaurants provide a separate day out, while a central base makes meeting for dinner straightforward. Keep ambitious excursions for an extended stay.
Plan the rest of your trip
Compare Baku with the other 2027 race weekends before settling on the flights. Our Which Grand Prix should I go to? guide helps compare cost, travel effort and holiday value. If easy travel from Britain matters more than a new city, start with the British Grand Prix or Belgian Grand Prix.
For a different city break, compare Monaco from a coastal base, Budapest and the Hungarian Grand Prix and Milan for Monza. Choose the journey your group will enjoy as well as the circuit: the right base town, a sensible flight home and one good non-racing day make the whole weekend work.
