Choose the Festival of Speed for a motorsport weekend where exploring is as important as watching. The event runs at Goodwood House, West Sussex, from Thursday 15–Sunday 18 July 2027. It is a hillclimb and automotive festival in the estate's parkland, rather than a race meeting at the separate Goodwood Motor Circuit.
Our sample trip covers Friday 16–Monday 19 July, with three nights and Friday-to-Sunday attendance. Thursday is a fourth event day: add its admission and the extra accommodation needed if you want all four days. That distinction matters when comparing a weekend total with a four-day package.
Chichester is the best starting point for a car-free plan, using the station shuttle. Bognor Regis can suit a coastal stay with a journey into Chichester; Midhurst offers a smaller-town base for drivers or a booked transfer. Choose the transport first, then look for a bed that makes that route straightforward.
Use Goodwood's official Festival of Speed page for the 2027 event and ticket links. Start your own plan with three priorities: the vehicles you want to see, whether you want a seated viewing option, and how you will get back at the end of a long outdoor day.

Why go
Our verdict
Our opinion · how the 1–5 scores workGo for variety. You can watch cars on the hill, study machinery in paddock areas and spend part of the day discovering something you did not arrive expecting to enjoy. That makes the Festival an accessible first motorsport trip for a group with different levels of interest. Nobody needs to follow a championship table to appreciate the sound and detail.
The best approach is to alternate watching and exploring. Pick one hillclimb batch you really want, then give yourself time to visit another area without constantly checking your watch. An entire day spent defending one patch beside the hill misses much of what makes this event worth travelling for.
A multi-day visit helps because the site rewards curiosity, but a well-planned day ticket can still be the right choice. For families or a cautious first-timer, one enjoyable day and a nearby overnight may beat three tiring days. Decide how much walking and standing your group actually likes before buying the largest package.
The main compromise is the scale of the place. Grass, crowds, track crossings and the climb towards the woodland areas slow your progress. Build fewer appointments into the day, carry less than you think you need and leave room for breaks. A good plan gives you choices without making the Festival feel like a checklist.

2027 tickets — 2027 admission sale date not yet announced; hospitality is on sale.
2027 general admission is not on sale yet; the official ticket page offers ticket alerts. Hospitality is on sale separately. Official tickets and packages.
The current ticket FAQ gives free admission at 12 and under with an advance child ticket and wristband; under-18s need an adult. Ages 13–21 have a reduced Young Person ticket. Grandstand access needs a separate pass; confirm the boundary for a child aged exactly two because entries differ (checked October 2026).
2027 tickets use the Goodwood Tickets App; allow up to 72 hours after purchase for them to appear, or up to 24 hours near the event. Goodwood’s official resale partner is Twickets for face-value resale by UK residents; tickets included in packages are excluded. The ticket office accepts cancellation, exchange or refund requests only within 48 hours of purchase. Official delivery, refund and resale rules, checked October 2026. Share guest tickets through the app; screenshots are not accepted. Goodwood app sharing guide.
General admission is the natural starting point for exploring. A Roving Grandstand Pass adds a seated viewing option in the stands covered by that product; check the access rules and whether a particular seat is reserved before buying. Hospitality is worth considering when its shelter, food and viewing match your group's priorities, rather than simply being the most expensive choice.
Book camping separately from admission unless a package explicitly includes both. Use the official camping page to compare pitch and pre-arranged options. Ask about electric hook-up, washing facilities, shuttle access, bedding and the allowed arrival/departure window. A tent pitch is a different purchase from a furnished tent, and both differ from a hotel room.
Check before you book: confirm the current 2027 price, day coverage, grandstand access and cancellation conditions in the official checkout. The budget below allows for three attended days, so replace that line with your exact day or package choice.
Buy only from Goodwood or its listed agents. Unofficial sellers may sell invalid tickets.
Hospitality & upgrades
2027 hospitality — Festival of Speed packages are on sale through Goodwood.
The 2027 Festival of Speed hospitality page confirms packages are on sale, with a brochure and an enquiry route on that page. Ask Goodwood for the dated package name, price and inclusions before paying (checked October 2026).
Getting there
2027 travel planning — current Chichester rail and venue-arrival directions checked October 2026; dated station-shuttle details need confirmation.
Take the train to Chichester and use the meeting’s own station connection, detailed on the official getting-here page. London Victoria serves Chichester; journeys from Waterloo connect via Havant. Drivers should follow the event’s signed parking route rather than the nearest estate postcode. Festival of Speed takes place at Goodwood House; Revival and Members’ Meeting use the Motor Circuit, so their gates are not interchangeable. Check the station engineering notice and book the return transfer with the outward journey (checked October 2026).
For rail travel, search Chichester and then the event shuttle. Goodwood's official travel page describes the station-to-event bus, with a separate fare. Its published guide gives a broad station-shuttle operating window, but use the dated 2027 instructions for the last departure before booking a fixed train home.
London travellers can compare the Victoria route with Waterloo connections via Havant. From Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester, compare the complete return journey and number of changes rather than the quickest headline time. Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle visitors should look at a Thursday arrival if Friday attendance would otherwise begin with a very early long journey; add that night to the budget.
Driving works for families carrying equipment or a group sharing fuel. Follow the event's signed approach and the colour of any allocated parking label as you near the estate. A satnav shortcut can put you on the wrong approach, so save the official map before leaving. Public parking is described as free in the current organiser guide, but premium parking is a separate product.
Allow for a grass car park, a walk to the entrance and a queue to leave. Do not promise an exact post-event driving time: choose a flexible dinner booking or eat before joining the road queue. For taxis, agree the designated collection point and price arrangement in advance. Do not expect a driver to reach whichever exit happens to be nearest when you finish.

To the circuit: Midhurst → Goodwood Festival of Speed: Pre-booked road transfer; duration pending. Checked October 2026. Official transport information.
Search Midhurst stays · 16–19 July 2027 ↗Chichester is our default base because the railway station and event shuttle give a car-free plan a clear centre. Look at the actual walk from your room to the station, especially after an evening meal. A town-centre hotel may be useful even if it costs more than a remote room that needs two taxis every day.
Bognor Regis suits visitors who want a seaside element to the trip. Price the journey into Chichester and onward shuttle for each attended day, including the return connection. Choose it for the combined coast-and-Festival holiday rather than assuming every coastal room is automatically cheaper at a major local event.
Midhurst is a different proposition: a smaller-town stay north of the estate, best considered with a car or arranged transfer. It is not interchangeable with a room beside Chichester station. Confirm parking at the accommodation, breakfast timing and the route you will actually use on event mornings before accepting a non-refundable rate.
For our three-night searches, check in Friday 16 July and leave Monday 19 July. If you want an early Friday start, arriving Thursday can make the weekend much more relaxed, but costs a fourth night. For all four event days, many travellers will want to arrive Wednesday as well. Put the extra nights into your own total rather than squeezing a four-day visit into a three-night comparison.
Search dates: 2027-07-16 to 2027-07-19 (three nights, two adults sharing). Arriving Thursday adds a fourth night; change the dates before booking. Match the hotel’s walk to your station or pickup point before reserving.

True cost of the weekend
Two adults share one room for three nights, Friday–Monday. The sample visit covers Friday–Sunday admission and three nights, 16–19 July. The full festival runs Thursday–Sunday; add Thursday admission and another night if attending all four days.
Return UK travel assumes rail or shared driving from within mainland Britain, with three nights in a room shared by two adults. Circuit transport allows station shuttles or local transfers; ordinary public parking is described as free by the current organiser guide. The ticket line is an editorial three-day allowance, with larger viewing/hospitality budgets in higher tiers; check actual inclusions to avoid double-counting included food.

Estimates per adult, checked October 2026. Use them to plan, then swap in your real prices.
The table compares three-day visits using different levels of comfort. Budget keeps general admission and a modest shared room. Mid-range leaves more for a grandstand upgrade, a better room and easier transfers. Splurge provides a larger hospitality or premium viewing allowance, with a more comfortable hotel and pre-arranged travel.
Compare the whole booking basket. A hospitality product may include food that replaces part of your food allowance, while a ticket-and-camping package may replace the room line. Avoid counting the same included meal or transfer twice. Conversely, add breakfast if the hotel rate excludes it and you plan to leave before nearby cafés open.
For two people driving, split fuel and any paid premium parking between the actual occupants. Public parking and event transfers are different things, and a nominally cheaper hotel may require a bigger transport line. Keep a little room for a taxi if one member of the group needs to return before everyone else.
One day can bring the total down substantially, particularly for a local visitor who can sleep at home. Three days buy time to explore rather than simply a longer view of the same hill. Choose the version that matches your interests and energy, then spend the savings on a comfortable journey rather than buying upgrades because they exist.
At the circuit
The Festival FAQ identifies family rooms at the cricket pitch’s north side, Limetrees behind Turn 1 grandstand, and the Fan Zone north of the F1 pit lane/Ballroom Paddock. Complimentary foam earplugs are available at entrances, information booths and grandstand marshals. Keep bags compact and ready for search; ask the Information Centre about current luggage-storage arrangements (checked October 2026).
Latest published visitor guidance, checked October 2026: bag searches apply, with no numerical size limit stated. Drones, weapons/sharp objects beyond sensible picnic cutlery, illegal substances and excess alcohol are prohibited. Picnics are welcome: between two guests, up to one 750 ml wine/champagne bottle or four beers, with no spirits; alcohol is excluded from enclosures and paddocks. The event is cashless, including caterers and exhibitors. Bring a reusable bottle for free refills. Accessible toilets are marked on the official event map; the hoist/changing toilet is near Gate 1. The 2027 service layout still needs confirmation.
Viewing areas & general admission
Start with the Hillclimb and then move away from it deliberately. Watch a batch from a position you can reach comfortably, paying attention to which side of a crossing you need next. Crossing points open under event control; a direct line on a map can still involve waiting. Leave space between activities on opposite sides of the hill.
The paddocks reward an unhurried visit. You see the cars as objects as well as moving machines, and can compare details that disappear in a fast pass. Public access is subject to the event layout and working areas: give crews room and follow the barriers rather than assuming every garage entrance is open. Keep children beside you when machinery is moving.
The Supercar Paddock and Supercar Run offer two complementary experiences: close inspection and seeing the cars move on the hill. Use the day's timetable to coordinate them instead of hoping to catch everything at once. Goodwood's official explore guide is a useful introduction to the event's main areas.
Make a separate block of time for the Forest Rally Stage. It sits in the woodland part of the event and adds walking to a day that is already busy. Wear shoes suitable for uneven ground and allow a return buffer. A grandstand upgrade suits people who want sitting breaks; it does not eliminate the walking between attractions.
For a first visit, pick one comfortable hillclimb position with a useful screen sightline, then alternate watching with exploring. Use the current site map for screens, toilets and sheltered rest areas. Ask which grandstand sections have weather cover; the ticket name alone cannot tell you how much sun or rain reaches your seat.
Event day by day
Published visitor arrangements, checked October 2026: the getting-here page gives standard car-park opening at 06:30 and the Chichester station shuttle operating 07:00–20:00. Use that early arrival to get through the entrance before choosing your hillclimb position. A complete 2027 timed running order for hillclimb batches, Supercar Run and rally stage was not yet published; do not treat a previous edition’s session times as the new programme.
Thursday 15 July is the first event day. If you want it, book the correct admission and arrange arrival so you can use the day. Our sample budget begins on Friday, so Thursday attendance and the night before it sit outside the model. Avoid buying a four-day product without also checking where you will sleep on the necessary nights.
On Friday, use the morning to understand the site and visit the areas highest on your list. Alternate a hillclimb session with a paddock visit and a proper lunch break. Do not walk all the way to the woodland area simply because you feel you should; save it for a block when you can enjoy the journey and the viewing.
Saturday is a good day to give the Forest Rally Stage its own time, then return for another priority batch. Recheck the daily timetable and any changes before setting off. If you have a grandstand pass, use it as a place to settle for a while rather than rushing between every stand included in it.
On Sunday, focus on what you most want to see again and the published finale programme. Pack before leaving the hotel if necessary, but establish where your bags will stay; carrying an overnight case around the estate is a poor use of your day. The Monday departure in our model gives you a less hurried Sunday evening.
Keep the journey home separate from your final viewing choice. Allow time to walk to the bus or car park and join the queue, with a flexible meal plan rather than a rushed fixed booking.
Getting back after the race
The published station-shuttle operating window ends at 20:00 (checked October 2026). Leave time to reach the bus queue before the end of service and book a rail departure with room for traffic. Treat this as the latest published arrangement until the 2027 transport edition appears.
Before and after the race
- Chichester Cathedral for a city-centre visit.
- Pallant House Gallery for modern British art.
- Weald & Downland Living Museum for a separate countryside day out.
- Farmer, Butcher, Chef for a restaurant and bar booking.
- The Great Sussex Way for West Wittering beach and South Downs day-trip ideas.
- Chichester Festival Theatre — book an evening performance if its programme fits your visit.
Chichester makes a useful independent day for someone who wants a city-sized dose of culture without another complicated journey. Explore the centre, stop for lunch and choose an attraction around the weather. Use the official local tourism guide for the cathedral, galleries, theatre and current visitor information before booking.
The coast gives a mixed group another reason to stay. A Bognor Regis base can offer a seaside morning while others leave for the Festival. Keep any beach or coastal walk plan proportionate to the weather and transport: a relaxed lunch and short walk can be a better day than an ambitious cross-county itinerary with a late return.
Agree separate plans rather than making the non-fan spend the day waiting at the entrance. Share the hotel details, give everyone a way to pay for transport and set a dinner meeting point in your base town. Mobile networks and queues can make precise collection promises awkward at a large event.
For a shared extension, add a Sussex day after the Festival, when nobody needs to keep watching the event timetable. Choose a single main outing, then book the extra room night and any attraction admission separately. It is a good way to turn a specialist motorsport weekend into a trip the whole group remembers fondly.
First-timers & families
Treat this as a full outdoor day. Wear broken-in shoes for grass and uneven ground, carry waterproof layers and sun protection, and take a refillable bottle within the current entry rules. Keep the bag light enough to carry uphill and through crowds. A compact power bank is more useful than equipment you never get out of the bag.
Bring children's ear defenders from home and practise wearing them before the visit. Plan regular quieter breaks and a meal before hunger becomes the main event. Pick a small number of things the child will enjoy, including seeing cars close up, rather than expecting them to stand still for every hillclimb batch.
The official FAQs explain child and young-person ticket arrangements. Order the correct child admission or registration during booking, check grandstand requirements separately and collect the event wristband so you can write a contact number on it. A free or reduced admission product does not automatically mean every upgrade is included.
Check before you book: confirm the 2027 family ticket, bag and food rules on the organiser's current pages. Pack to those rules and save ticket-access instructions before travelling.
A hotel makes wet-weather recovery and early bedtime straightforward. Camping can be excellent fun if your family already likes sleeping outdoors; compare the pitch, washing facilities and event transfer rather than choosing it solely for the headline price.
Accessibility
Start with Goodwood's dedicated accessibility guide, then discuss the actual visit you want with the ticket team. The parkland setting means grass and uneven ground, so establish the routes between your arrival point, viewing area, toilets and any attraction you consider essential.
Ask about the current accessible parking arrangements, mobility hire and on-site assistance services. If you need equipment, reserve it directly and confirm where it is collected and returned. A courtesy vehicle may help with part of the site; it is still worth understanding the remainder of the route and the likely wait when crowds are leaving.
For Essential Companion tickets, follow the application route linked from the organiser rather than buying an extra ticket and expecting a refund later. Explain any seating or assistance need early, and ask how a grandstand product works with your chosen arrangements. Keep the booking confirmation and the agreed instructions together.
Build a calmer itinerary with fewer long moves. Leave time for a seated break before the next major attraction, carry medication and a weather layer, and choose an agreed meeting point if the group splits. Before paying for a non-refundable stay, confirm that the hotel room, bathroom and parking meet your needs as well as the event itself. Describe the features you need rather than relying only on a hotel's accessible-room label.
FAQs
When is the 2027 Goodwood Festival of Speed?
Goodwood confirms 15–18 July 2027. Our sample three-night trip runs 16–19 July and covers Friday-to-Sunday attendance; add Thursday admission and any extra nights for all four event days.
Is the Festival held at Goodwood Motor Circuit?
No. Festival of Speed takes place in the Goodwood House estate parkland around the Hillclimb. Use the event's own arrival instructions so you reach the correct venue.
Can I get there without a car?
Yes. Travel to Chichester railway station and use the event shuttle, checking its fare and dated return service before choosing your train home. Chichester is our preferred base for this plan.
Do I need a grandstand ticket?
General admission is a good way to explore. Consider a grandstand upgrade if a seated viewing option matters to your group, checking what the product covers and whether seats are reserved.
Should I choose Festival of Speed or Goodwood Revival?
Choose Festival of Speed for the hillclimb, paddocks and broad mix of machinery. Revival is a separate historic racing event at the Motor Circuit; give it its own travel and ticket budget rather than treating it as another day of this festival.
Plan the rest of your trip
Use the UK Motorsport hub to plan your next event and find the circuit directory. Our Isle of Man TT guide offers a very different trip: ferry or flight, island accommodation and permitted roadside viewing rather than a Sussex estate festival.
For a conventional Grand Prix weekend, compare the Silverstone travel guide. If you are considering an overseas race after trying a domestic event, the F1 hub sets out the calendar and links to the full guides. Start with total cost and the last journey home, then choose the sporting experience.
Goodwood Revival is a natural later trip for people who enjoy the setting but want historic wheel-to-wheel racing. Use Goodwood's official Revival page for its own dates and ticket information. Recheck hotel and transport arrangements for that event rather than assuming a Festival booking or shuttle timetable carries across.
Before finishing this booking, write down the days you will attend, the nights you will stay and the transport used each day. Add upgrades, meals and the final journey home once, then share the plan with the group. It is a small job that prevents the most common mismatch: an excellent ticket and a hotel stay that does not quite cover it.
